The Singing of the Soul

july 13-august 18

Terry Hauptman' s exhibition will feature large figurative mixed-media scrolls, which are an expression of the inter-relatedness of all beings, as Terry’ puts it, in harmonic resonance. Envisioning Terry’s work is to feel the rhythmic contours of ecstatic dance, hear the figurative choruses of the world’s voices, and to bask in the turquoise, purple, and gold emanations of color from a deep, resonant black ground. Hauptman’s love of intertwined spirals and knots, the rhythmic interlinking of curves amidst the play of contraries set the scrolls in motion. These painted Songline Scrolls break traditional boundaries by having figures dance through the dimension of the paper - their visual music representing one continuous glyph.

At the opening from 5pm-8pm on July 13th, Terry will be performing On Hearing Thunder, a poetry reading accompanied by Brian Fitzpatrick, a composer and performer of  mainstream jazz and “stream of consciousness” performance.

Preview of pieces are below; additional works for sale will be live on our website by July 9th.
